Diffraction-Free Bessel Beams at mm- and Submm-Wavebands

چکیده
Bessel beams are a family of diffraction-free beams. They have many unique properties and prospective applications. Much attention has been focused to this subject in optics. Recently, the studies of such beams at mmand submmwavebands have been carried out in our group. The investigation results, including their theories, generation, propagation and potential applications, are presented in this paper. key words: diffraction-free, Bessel beams, millimeterand submillimeterwavebands (mmand submm-wavebands)

Generation of diffraction-free plasmonic beams with one-dimensional Bessel profiles.
We demonstrate experimentally generation of diffraction-free plasmonic beams with zeroth- and first-order Bessel intensity profiles using axicon-like structures fabricated on gold film surfaces and designed to operate at a wavelength of 700 nm. The central beam features a very low divergence (~8π mrad) for a narrow waist of the order of one wavelength and the ability to self reconstruct, which ...
متن کاملA tale of two beams: an elementary overview of Gaussian beams and Bessel beams
An overview of two types of beam solutions is presented, Gaussian beams and Bessel beams. Gaussian beams are examples of non-localized or diffracting beam solutions, and Bessel beams are example of localized, non-diffracting beam solutions. Gaussian beams stay bounded over a certain propagation range after which they diverge. Bessel beams are among a class of solutions to the wave equation that...
متن کامل1. Generation of nondiffracting caustic beam
In this letter, we explore the possibilities of generating diffraction-free caustics over a predetermined range. For the first time we demonstrate the possibility to generate diffraction-free caustic beams. Caustic beams are a topic of increased interest over the past few years. Diffraction-free caustics may find applications in situations where large depth of field and uniform axial energy dis...
متن کاملNon-linear propagation of limited diffraction beams
Recently, harmonic imaging has been shown to increase image quality in medical imaging. This is believed to be caused by decreased sidelobes. It is also due to a decreased sensitivity to near-field aberrations owing to the lower transmission frequency, and the lower relative amplitude of the second harmonic in the near-field. One of the problems of limited diffraction beams has been the sidelob...
متن کاملA Tale of Two Beams: Gaussian Beams and Bessel Beams
An overview is given of two types of focused beams, Gaussian beams and Bessel beams. First I describe some of the basic properties of Gaussian beams in homogeneous media which stay collimated over a certain distance range after which they diverge. Bessel beams are then described which are among a class of solutions to the wave equation that are diffraction-free and do not diverge when they prop...
